Ep5: Clinical Insights: Stem Cells and Root Cause Healing
Stem Cells and the Root Cause: Bridging Ancient Wisdom with Modern Cellular Regeneration
Traditional medicine often masks the signal. It ignores the source. Dr. Yi Song’s journey from pathology to stem cell therapy reveals a different path. One focused on fundamental healing. Not just a temporary fix. A deep restoration of function.
The promise of regenerative medicine isn’t just repair. It’s a return to vitality. By combining Traditional Chinese Medicine with advanced cellular therapy, Dr. Song addresses the systemic imbalances that drive chronic disease. This approach treats the body as a garden, not a machine.
From Pathology to the Root of Healing
Western pathology provides a window into disease. It identifies what is wrong. It often fails to show how to fix it permanently. Dr. Song transitioned to Traditional Chinese Medicine to find the source. This led back to the lab. To the very building blocks of life. A circular journey toward true prevention.
“Actually stem cell treatment incorporates the principles of early prevention and treating the root cause.”
Emotional Stress as a Physical Blockage
Pain is rarely just physical. Chronic conditions often involve years of emotional weight. This stress creates blockages in the body’s natural flow. In Chinese medicine, the stomach is the root of emotion. Unresolved trauma manifests as physical symptoms. Nausea. Pain. Inflammation. Unraveling these stressors is vital for recovery.
“A lot of people’s conditions are a combination of emotional stress and then acting on the physical.”
The Power of Cellular Regeneration
The body has limits. Sometimes herbs and acupuncture aren’t enough to trigger a full recovery. Stem cells provide the necessary power. They stimulate the body to regenerate in ways other therapies cannot. This is biological reinforcement. A way to jumpstart the healing process when it has stalled.
“There are no other ways that you can stimulate the body to regenerate that well without the use of stem cells.”
Case Study: Reversing Vascular Inflammation
Standard treatments for vein insufficiency are often invasive. Lasers. Stents. Amputations. These address the symptoms while the inflammation remains. Dr. Song applied stem cell therapy to treat lipodermatosclerosis. The results were rapid. Within one month, the inflammation subsided. A non-surgical victory for chronic pain.
“Stem cells are very good at reducing inflammation and if it’s a vein insufficiency uh that means you have some valve issue that’s not functioning correctly.”
Access to Therapeutic Dosing in Colombia
Quality matters in regenerative medicine. So does quantity. Working in Colombia allows for higher therapeutic dosing through expanded stem cells. This is not about cutting corners. It is about efficacy. Specialized labs can cultivate the cell counts necessary for systemic healing. A different level of potency.
“Everything is about trial and error… most times the dosage of the stem cell intravenous is just based on people’s body weight.”
Stem Cells and the Source of Life Energy
Chinese medicine views kidney energy as the source of life. As we age, this cauldron of energy fades. Umbilical cord stem cells carry a unique signature. They bring the energy of new life. This isn’t just a metaphor. It is the introduction of fresh biological signaling into a depleted system.
“It carries the energy from the umbilical cord which is like totally new energy for new life.”
Dosing for the Individual: Flowers vs. Tanks
Every patient has a different constitution. Some are robust. Others are delicate. For sensitive individuals, a massive single dose can be overwhelming. Frequent, smaller infusions often yield better results for autoimmune conditions or Parkinson’s. It’s like eating smaller meals throughout the day. Better absorption. Less stress on the system.
“For the more complicated conditions it’s definitely beneficial if you can do two or three treatment within the first two three months.”
Immune Surveillance and Cancer Prevention
Cancer thrives when the immune system fails. Chronic stress weakens the guards. When the surveillance system sleeps, abnormal cells grow. Stem cells should be used proactively. They help maintain the body’s internal defenses before a crisis begins. A strategy for long-term protection.
“If your immune system is weakened for various reasons, then it cannot keep the guard on all these abnormal cells.”
The Horizon of Regenerative Medicine
The medical field is changing. Patients are frustrated with symptom-masking drugs. They are looking for alternatives. Scientific data from outside the United States continues to grow. People are taking control of their own health journeys. They see the potential. They want solutions that actually work.
“Most treatments are just treating the symptoms not root cause and then they only patch the symptom.”

0:00 Why Stem Cells Align With Root Cause Medicine
Dr. Yi Song: I really wanted to do traditional Chinese medicine to help people treat the root cause of the condition and do the early prevention. And I realized actually stem cell treatment incorporates the principles of early prevention and treating the root cause. There is no other way that you can stimulate the body to regenerate that well without the use of stem cells.
0:23 From Pathology to Traditional Chinese Medicine
Dr. Elizabeth Eversull: So Dr. Ye, tell us your story, how you got to do what you do and where you got going.
Dr. Yi Song: I was always interested in helping people live healthier and longer since I was a teenager. So then I studied pathology because I really wanted to solve the fundamental root cause of disease. But then I found out what I was learning in pathology in western medicine cannot really solve the problem for people. Just like what you realize, the painkiller doesn’t really help a person’s pain condition, it’s just masking the pain and it’s not even masking the pain that well for them anymore.
That is when I realized I really wanted to do traditional Chinese medicine to help people with the principles in traditional Chinese medicine to treat the root cause of the condition and do the early prevention. From there I went to Columbia because I fell in love with it. I purchased this property to make it a sanctuary for people to relax, meditate, and then rejuvenate their body and mind. Then I got introduced to this lab in Columbia doing stem cells. So that’s how I came all the way around and I realized actually stem cell treatment incorporates the principles of early prevention and treating the root cause.
Dr. Elizabeth Eversull: You can feather that in, so to speak. You went a whole circle back. Interesting. And so you got fully certified in traditional Chinese medicine and you are an acupuncturist as well. So that is a big part of it. Fantastic.
2:19 How Patient Assessment Goes Beyond Symptoms
Dr. Elizabeth Eversull: When you look at a patient, how do you start to develop a plan? When a patient comes in and they have got their complaints, what is going through your mind and how does that assessment end up in the plan?
Dr. Yi Song: The first thing I will see from a person, if they complain they have this nausea that has been bothering them for a year now, she says all the gastroenterologists have done all the tests to see what is wrong, whether she has a gastric ulcer or any hiatus in the esophagus. And so what I will see is she actually has some emotional issue that is causing the direction of the energy to not go down supposedly in the digestive tract in the right way, and it’s going up instead.
Dr. Elizabeth Eversull: Because the stomach is the root of emotion. Exactly. That makes a ton of sense.
Dr. Yi Song: So that is what I would go from, and then we will find out around a year ago what happened to you and why you all of a sudden developed this condition. Actually, I just saw her recently and she found out from another test saying she has small intestine bacteria overgrowth. So then they are going to put her on an antibiotic to treat the SIBO. But then she also tried a lot of other alternative things including alginate to form a layer of protection in your skin.
Dr. Elizabeth Eversull: It’s like a gel. So for her, I think she actually started having it because of some emotional stress. You do a lot of emotional unraveling as well. You have to do that with chronic things that have not responded. You have to do that just like what you were doing using hypnotherapy and all these things because a lot of people’s condition is a combination of emotional stress acting on the physical.
Dr. Yi Song: 100%. And what is difficult is that because people have been told they are just depressed, they almost have this trauma reflex where they say, “So you’re saying it’s all in my head?” No, it is, but it isn’t. You just tell them that no placebo would ever be a placebo if we weren’t controlled by our subconscious. Exactly.
5:29 Why Stem Cells Enable True Regeneration
Dr. Elizabeth Eversull: So then how do you end up feathering regenerative medicine, or stem cells in particular, into your plan?
Dr. Yi Song: I feel stem cells somehow can give the regenerative power that cannot be given from any other therapies like acupuncture, herbal medicine, or even some other western medicine treatment. There are no other ways that you can stimulate the body to regenerate that well without the use of stem cells. The perfect example is my mom, and that’s how I started doing the stem cells. I never knew that she had a lot of problems, but she was born with a lot of deficiencies. She has had osteoporosis for the past 30 years, but she never took any osteoporosis medication because she is very allergic to any kind of medication. She tried several different osteoporosis medications and had various side effects that she couldn’t handle.
So we basically just stopped and we keep her on fermented cod liver oil and some other herbal formulas to help her body. Other than that, we are not taking any medication. She takes some calcium and vitamin D, but she gets to the point about five years ago that she probably has too much knee pain and lipodermatosclerosis in the lower leg.
6:22 Case Example: Vascular Inflammation and Recovery
Dr. Elizabeth Eversull: Vein insufficiency?
Dr. Yi Song: Yes. So she always has bad circulation in the leg and then it became so inflamed it looked like a champagne bottle. I have another gentleman who said he went to a nursing home back in the 1990s and they rolled out this lady who was the matriarch of that nursing home. She looked like she had a Christmas red stocking on her leg, which she actually didn’t. It was just because she had the similar condition as my mom and it was never treated. It became so red it looks as if she was having the Christmas stocking on. It was very painful. My mom actually had that kind of initial stage of inflammation. It is so painful and we tried many different things and it didn’t work.
Right around that time I got to know about this lab in Colombia. So I said what is there to lose? The traditional treatment for that kind of thing is either using a laser to cut off your vein so that your vein doesn’t have the blood flow. They think that will fix your problem, but actually it is already vein insufficiency and cutting off the vein doesn’t really solve the root problem. The other person I know whose mom had a similar condition did stent treatment trying to blow the vein open, but it ended up blowing all the junk to her foot and she had to have a foot amputation.
I don’t want my mom to go that route. So basically we just said since it’s inflammation and stem cells are very good at reducing inflammation, and if it’s a vein insufficiency that means you have some valve issue that’s not functioning correctly, let’s try and see whether the stem cell can fix your vein valve so that it can solve this inflammation issue. It worked within a month.
9:04 Stem Cells vs Surgery and Steroid Injections
Dr. Elizabeth Eversull: Wow, really? That is so powerful.
Dr. Yi Song: That is how I started to realize this is very powerful because we don’t have any other thing. If anybody has a knee problem, if you don’t want to do surgery or steroid injections, you want to regenerate the joint. So far I haven’t seen any other treatment, including acupuncture, that can help. Acupuncture can help the shoulder or knee, but it takes longer and you have to do a lot of repetitions. For this one you just do one treatment and it can take care of you. If you take care of your joint after the injection and do other adjunct treatments, it can prolong you for years. It is very powerful.
Dr. Elizabeth Eversull: That is so exciting, and it’s really personal to you because of your mom. That was a wakeup call. Do you think that stem cells are essentially raising someone’s chi? You get it to a certain point and then you just get it over the top.
10:05 Stem Cells and Life Energy Explained
Dr. Yi Song: In Chinese medicine we always talk about the kidney energy as the source of the life energy. The kidney is like a cauldron. If somebody is going to pass away, basically your cauldron is just gradually going down then eventually goes out; that is the end of that person’s life. But for the stem cell, because it comes from the umbilical cord, it carries the energy from the umbilical cord which is like totally new energy for new life.
I even talked about this with another podcast episode. We have this cow in Colombia on our farm. After the cow delivered the baby, she actually ate up the whole placenta. One theory is the cow wants to eat the placenta so there is no predator to find the smell. But the other thing is I think it’s very nutritious for the mother to eat that. In Chinese herbal medicine, we have been using dried up placenta to nourish people when they are very weak or if they have deficiency. That has been practiced for thousands of years. It was just low tech because back then we didn’t have the technology to extract the stem cells to give to people for more powerful effects.
11:49 Who Is Not a Candidate for Stem Cells
Dr. Elizabeth Eversull: Is there anyone that is not a candidate for stem cells?
Dr. Yi Song: I would say people with active cancer. We have to be very careful because the stem cell can secrete so much growth hormone and cell signaling. Same reason we can’t give them growth hormone, it can fuel their cancer growth. But once they are in remission then we can use stem cells. On the other hand, we definitely want to use stem cells before any cancer starts. We try to check really early to do this. Even if we cannot detect anything, that doesn’t mean your body is not creating cancer cells. We are creating cancer cells all the time, it’s just because our immune system is enough to eradicate any abnormal cells. But if your immune system is weakened for various reasons, then it cannot keep the guard on all these abnormal cells. That is when these cancer cells can start growing.
12:56 How Chronic Stress Weakens Immune Surveillance
Dr. Elizabeth Eversull: What do you see as the most common issue causing immune deficiency and that lack of surveillance?
Dr. Yi Song: I think it goes to stress. In my clinical experience, when I see people who develop cancer, if you trace back you can see it’s not just a one or two year process. It is decades of emotional stress. In my book that’s coming up, Regeneration Effect, I am talking about how you want to follow the natural flow and tend your body as a garden. You don’t want to treat your body just as a machine. When you tend your body as a garden, that means when you have emotional stress you actually have blockage.
I’m also a client of Dr. Ye. He had already had one knee replaced and on the other knee he had meniscus surgery. He had prolonged pain even two months after the surgery. He sought out stem cell treatment. After about three weeks, his daughters were fighting in the house and he had to run up the stairs. He realized his knee didn’t hurt. If you guys had not tried the umbilical, it is pretty special.
14:36 Dosing Strategy Based on Patient Constitution
Dr. Elizabeth Eversull: What is your thought on how to dose and the frequency? Maybe some people can’t handle a huge amount of treatment all at once. It may be good for those people to do a little bit less but more frequently so they can get more out of that. How do you tell if it is too strong for them?
Dr. Yi Song: You can kind of get a feel for a patient’s vibe. Some people are delicate flowers and some are just like a tank. My husband is a tank. I can do all kinds of things like hyperbaric high dose oxygen and high pressure, and he is fine. Can you tell a difference? Not really. So in that way, he is like that. I don’t think that has to do with dose. I think it had to do with the medium. He is also maybe not very attuned to his own body, so he doesn’t feel a lot of things. But for the sensitive flowers, doing a little bit less and a little bit more frequently may be the way to go.
Dr. Elizabeth Eversull: Definitely, because I find for autoimmune conditions or fibrosis in the lungs or long covid, some people benefit from this treatment better if they do one treatment, then another treatment one or two weeks afterwards as an intravenous infusion, and then another treatment one month afterwards. It’s like having more frequent meals rather than one big meal. For more complicated conditions it is definitely beneficial if you can do two or three treatments within the first few months. That will give them the most benefits, and then after that you can do once a year. If you do two or three treatments in one month, then you can use a smaller dose like 50 million cells instead of 100 million.
18:35 Preparing the Body for Stem Cell Therapy
Dr. Elizabeth Eversull: What is your protocol in terms of prepping someone? If you are going to run stem cells, what are your thoughts?
Dr. Yi Song: First of all, we have to see whether their conditions are suitable for stem cell treatment, but then after that we look at what kind of medication they are taking. If they are taking a lot of anti-inflammatories, it’s not good because we have to get them off that so their immune system can respond to the treatment, otherwise it is suppressed. But there is also research showing they treat some autoimmune conditions together with steroid treatment and still get some beneficial effect. Since this is very new, it doesn’t have a lot of research that has already been done in clinical trials. Everything is about trial and error. We know it’s beneficial but we don’t know exactly how all these things interact with each other. Right now most times the dosage of the stem cell intravenous is based on people’s body weight.
20:37 Stem Cells and Pediatric Neurological Conditions
Dr. Yi Song: If you treat kids with autism who are only four years old, you will not use 100 million cells; you will use 50 million. It is beneficial to combine with exosomes because for kids, exosomes can enter their brain better through the blood-brain barrier. The intrathecal is the best way to enter it, but for kids it is very difficult to do.
Dr. Elizabeth Eversull: How about the autistic kids you treated with stem cells two years ago? Are they fabulous? Do they need more treatment?
Dr. Yi Song: We have done a lot of detox and working with nutrition and getting food allergies under control. So far so good. Do you think the autism is because the kids have heavy metals?
Dr. Elizabeth Eversull: Well, not only that. There is going to be a genetic predisposition regarding how well you can detox, how much glutathione you intrinsically make, and your antioxidant status. I am having my moms that are having newborns do genetic testing straight away to see what their capabilities are. Some of the moms want to do vaccines but they want to do it as safely as they possibly can, so they spread it out. We are testing the detox capacity of the newborns before going forward. I do think there’s something to that because the whole 72 vaccine deal is out of control. When we were kids, it was five.
22:56 Common Pediatric Conditions
Dr. Yi Song: What are the most common conditions that you see with children?
Dr. Elizabeth Eversull: The most common condition will be autism or some brain developmental issues. Recently I had a teenager who has this postural orthostatic issue. Her heart rate raises up when she moves a certain way. There is no definite treatment in western medicine; they just say take salt, drink water, and wear compression stockings. We haven’t used stem cells yet for her, we are still treating her with acupuncture and other things. For kids right now with stem cells, mostly it is autism and cerebral palsy.
24:09 Why Chronic Inflammation Drives Aging
Dr. Elizabeth Eversull: What conditions do you see have the most dramatic impact and healing with stem cells?
Dr. Yi Song: I think it’s chronic inflammation. With aging we always have chronic inflammation in the body because the body cannot get rid of the junk. Then your immune system acts more, which is why you have more aches and pains when you age. If you can reduce the chronic inflammation when you age, then that is treating the root cause of aging. That is how you can improve the life quality of people getting old so they still have vitality. The best example is still my mom, but also treating people with idiopathic neuropathy where nothing worked. They took so much gabapentin and it doesn’t work. For that, it is chronic inflammation and stem cells can really work.
Dr. Elizabeth Eversull: I had one guy with amazing results from repeated treatments. I had another guy with really bad neuropathy and I tried to talk him into getting stem cells, but he wouldn’t do it. I have this guy who wanted to do it, but then he talked to somebody and decided he needed to try something else before stem cells. People are still heavily influenced by their doctors.
27:05 The Future of Regenerative Medicine
Dr. Yi Song: I had an 85-year-old guy whose legs were swollen and he couldn’t breathe. I told him he was in heart failure and sent him to the hospital. I wanted to give him stem cells for his joint conditions, but his cardiologist said “absolutely not.” He could totally afford it. What do you see on the horizon coming up in regenerative medicine?
Dr. Elizabeth Eversull: That is very difficult to say because I don’t think stem cell treatment can be approved by the FDA anytime soon. I believe there are more and more people looking for alternatives to traditional western medicine because most treatments are just treating symptoms, not the root cause. A small percentage of the population is starting to look outside of traditional treatment and they are gaining more knowledge about stem cells because they see the potential and the science behind it. A lot of western doctors dismiss it as unproven because most research about mesenchymal stem cells is from outside of the United States due to availability and regulation. Also, what gets published in our journals is so controlled by big pharma.
29:16 Overcoming Fear and Misinformation
Dr. Yi Song: A lot of people calling about stem cells right now are on their own. Even a patient of mine who had steroid injections for her shoulder for 15 years; now she is 86 and the steroid injections stopped working. Her sister and two sons were totally against her having stem cells saying it is not a proven treatment. But she was open-minded and decided she wanted to do it after two acupuncture sessions with me. She improved so much and now she can move her arms with no problem and she can sleep. The other three people in her family just kept silent because they didn’t want to admit they were wrong. On that note, this has been amazing and exciting. I have learned so much and I am looking forward to doing it again.
Dr. Elizabeth Eversull: Yes, I am looking forward to doing more sessions because we have so much to talk about.
Dr. Yi Song: I know, it could be days.
